Henderson Garage Door Remote Reprogramming

How Do I Reprogram a Henderson Garage Door Remote?
Programming a Henderson garage door remote requires access to the Sommer motor unit that powers the door. The programming sequence is straightforward on current 868MHz models and takes under 60 seconds. This guide covers the process for current 868MHz motors and what to do if you have an older 40MHz system
Before you start: identify your motor model
Henderson powered doors used Sommer motor units. Check the label on the motor head for the model name and frequency. Common Henderson/Sommer motor models include Sprint, Duo and Marathon. Current versions operate on 868MHz; older versions on 40.685MHz.
Programming a remote to a current 868MHz Henderson/Sommer motor
- Locate the programming (learn) button on the motor unit. On most Sommer motors it is on the rear or underside of the motor head, sometimes behind a small cover panel.
- Press and hold the learn button until the motor indicator light flashes or an audible beep confirms the unit has entered programming mode. Release the button.
- Within approximately 10 seconds, press and hold the button on the replacement handset that you wish to use for the door. Hold until the motor confirms the code has been stored with a light flash or beep.
- Test the remote by pressing the programmed button. The motor should respond immediately.
Adding a second remote without accessing the motor
Some current Henderson/Sommer motors support a "copy" function where a new handset can be paired using an existing working remote:
- Hold the existing (working) remote next to the new handset.
- Press and hold a specific combination of buttons on the existing remote (refer to your motor manual for the exact sequence, as it varies by Sommer model).
- The new handset learns the code from the existing remote without needing to access the motor unit.
Older 40MHz systems
Older Henderson/Sommer 40MHz motors use a fixed-code rather than rolling-code system. Programming involves setting the DIP switches inside the handset to match the code set on the motor receiver. If the original handset has been lost and replacement 40MHz handsets are unavailable, a universal receiver upgrade kit is the most practical solution. This replaces the motor's radio receiver with a modern rolling-code module that accepts a current 433MHz or 868MHz handset.
