Garador Spindles and Rollers Replacement

How Do I Replace Garador Spindles and Rollers?

Worn Garador roller spindles are a frequent cause of doors that bind, scrape or travel unevenly. Replacement spindles are available for all Garador door types and replacement is one of the simpler Garador repairs. This guide covers spindle identification for G3 canopy and MK4 retractable doors and the full replacement process

Garador roller spindle types

Door type Spindle type Key dimensions
G3 canopy (2002 onwards) C-type roller spindle. Roller runs in the side track channel. Length: 85mm (earlier G3), 94mm or 96mm (later G3). Confirm by measuring the existing spindle shaft.
G3 with anti-drop (current) Anti-drop roller spindle assembly with integrated safety latch. Must be replaced as a complete assembly. Do not substitute a plain spindle for an anti-drop unit.
MK3C canopy (pre-2002) MK3C-pattern spindle. Earlier design from G3 C-type. Confirm by measuring existing spindle. MK3C spindles differ in shaft diameter and bracket attachment from G3.
MK4 retractable F-type spindle with wheel and bracket assembly. Different bracket profile from canopy-type spindles. Confirm MK4 F-type before ordering.
Garador sectional Panel rollers (side and top/bottom). Selected by roller diameter. Roller diameter: 40mm or 50mm. Confirm by measuring existing roller.

Signs that Garador spindles need replacing

  • Grinding or scraping sound when the door moves
  • Door jams or binds at a consistent point in its travel
  • Roller visibly worn flat or seized and not rotating when the door moves
  • Spindle shaft bent or corroded
  • Anti-drop latch triggered, leaving the door jammed against the track

Replacing a G3 C-type roller spindle

  1. Open the door fully and secure it in the open position on the track.
  2. The spindle assembly sits in the side track bracket. Locate the retaining bolt or circlip securing the spindle shaft to the bracket.
  3. Remove the retaining bolt or circlip and slide the old spindle assembly out of the track and bracket.
  4. Fit the new spindle into the bracket, ensuring the roller seats correctly in the track channel.
  5. Secure the shaft with the retaining bolt or circlip. Lower the door and test operation through the full travel range.
If your G3 door has anti-drop spindles, always replace the complete assembly. The anti-drop mechanism is integral to the spindle unit. Fitting a plain C-type spindle in place of an anti-drop assembly removes a safety feature specified for the door. Northwest Garage Door Spares stocks the complete Garador anti-drop spindle assembly for all current G3 canopy door specifications.
