Cardale Garage Door Lock Replacement

How Do I Replace a Cardale Garage Door Lock or Handle?

Cardale lock components are model-specific: the top spring latch system on CD45 canopy doors differs from the rear locking crucifix cam on Maximiser and Slideaway doors. This guide covers the Cardale locking system components and the correct replacement process for handles, lock bodies and latch assemblies

Cardale lock system: two main configurations

CD45 canopy: top spring latch system

CD45 canopy doors use a top spring latch assembly at each top corner of the door. The latch springs out when the handle is turned and engages a keeper on the door frame. A latch cable connects the central lock body to each latch assembly. The T-handle or eurolock handle operates the central lock body which pulls the latch cables to retract both latches simultaneously.

Maximiser and Slideaway: rear locking latch with crucifix cam

Maximiser and Slideaway doors use a rear locking latch system with a crucifix cam mechanism. The crucifix cam is a rotating component inside the lock body that engages multiple locking points. This provides a more secure multi-point locking arrangement but uses different components from the CD45 top spring latch system.

Cardale handle types and spindle lengths

Handle type Common spindle length Notes
T-handle (external) 75mm or 95mm T-locking handle for canopy and Maximiser doors. Measure the existing spindle before ordering.
Eurolock handle 75mm Cylinder eurolock handle for CD45 and similar. Gives key operation as well as handle operation.
Eurolock barrel (cylinder) Not applicable The keyed barrel inside the eurolock handle. Replaceable separately if the barrel is worn or keys are lost.
Internal handle (pop-up) Not applicable Cardale Compton pop-up handle for internal release on some canopy models.

Replacing a Cardale T-handle

Cardale T-handles are secured from inside the door with bolts through the door panel. To replace: open the door, remove the internal fixing bolts, withdraw the handle assembly from outside and fit the new handle in the same position. Confirm the spindle length (75mm or 95mm) before ordering. The spindle must match the door skin thickness for the lock cam to engage correctly.

Replacing a latch cable

On CD45 canopy doors, the latch cable runs from the lock body to the top spring latch at each upper corner of the door. If a cable is kinked, broken or disconnected, the latch on that side will not release. To replace: access the lock body from inside, disconnect the old cable at both the cam end and the latch bracket, thread the new cable along the same route and reconnect. Test the lock operation before closing the door.

Confirm your latch type before ordering: top spring latch or rear locking crucifix cam. These are different components and not interchangeable between CD45 canopy and Maximiser/Slideaway doors. The quickest way to tell them apart is whether the latches are at the top of the door (canopy: top spring latch) or at the side/rear (Maximiser/Slideaway: crucifix cam).
