Cardale Garage Door Part Identification Guide

Which Cardale Garage Door Part Do I Need?

Cardale is one of the most widely fitted garage door brands in the UK, spanning several distinct product lines. Parts are model-specific across CD45, CD Professional, Maximiser, Slideaway and Entex ranges. This guide covers how to identify your Cardale door type and match the correct replacement part to the fault

Cardale door families: quick reference

Model range Door type Key identification
CD45 Canopy Most common current Cardale canopy door. Single overhead spring on a shaft. CD45-pattern cones and roller spindles. Cables have stud (stop) ends at the bottom bracket. Currently the most widely serviced Cardale model.
CD Professional (CD Pro) Canopy with SafeLift anti-drop Similar to CD45 but fitted with SafeLift anti-drop pulley drums and anti-drop spindle assemblies. The SafeLift system prevents the door falling if a cable breaks.
Maximiser / Maximiser II Slideaway (retractable) Door travels fully inside the garage. Uses a unique Maximiser spring drum and pivot arm arrangement. Mk1 and Mk2 versions have different spring drum and cable configurations.
Slideaway Slideaway (retractable) Earlier retractable design. Clock spring cables and a spring drum that differs from the Maximiser arrangement.
Entex Canopy Colour-coded spring. Brown Entex: standard single-width. Purple Entex: heavier or larger doors. White spot: lighter duty.
Thermoglide Roller door Insulated roller door. Uses the Cardale PDT Rolltec remote system. Different to the standard Cardale up-and-over range.

Step 1: Confirm door type

Canopy door (CD45, Entex, CD Professional)

When fully open, the top section projects forward from the opening as a canopy. The spring shaft sits horizontally across the top of the door frame inside the garage. Cones on the shaft ends wind the cables as the spring turns. This is the most common Cardale door type.

Slideaway / Maximiser (retractable)

When fully open, the door travels entirely inside the garage with no canopy projection. Uses a Maximiser spring drum or clock spring arrangement mounted above the door. The pivot arm and spring drum are the key components that differ from canopy doors.

Thermoglide (roller)

Insulated roller door that rolls up into a drum housing. Requires the Cardale PDT Rolltec remote. Parts for the Thermoglide are different from the up-and-over range.

Step 2: Match symptom to part

Symptom Likely part needed
Door very heavy to lift Broken or weakened spring
Door drops on one side when opening Frayed or snapped cable; worn cone or spring drum
Door binds, scrapes or travels unevenly Worn or seized roller spindle
Remote no longer operates the motor Remote handset (battery first, then reprogram)
Handle turns but door does not lock Lock mechanism body, T-handle or latch cable
Maximiser door heavy or slow to open Worn Maximiser spring drum or spindle bracket
SafeLift triggered, door jammed against track Replace snapped cable then SafeLift spindle assembly
Cardale parts are model-specific. A CD45 spring drum will not fit a Maximiser. A CD Pro SafeLift spindle is not the same as a standard CD45 spindle. Always confirm the model before ordering. Call Northwest Garage Door Spares on 01942380256 if you are unsure.
