Garador Garage Door Lock Replacement

How Do I Replace a Garador Garage Door Lock or Handle?

Garador lock components are straightforward to replace and pattern parts are widely available for all common models. The key measurement before ordering any handle is the spindle length. This guide covers the Garador locking system and the correct replacement process for T-handles, lock bodies, lock rods and latch assemblies

Garador lock system components

Component Function Symptom when failed
T-handle (external) External grip for operating the lock Handle loose, broken, corroded or missing
Lock body / cam mechanism Central assembly connecting the handle to the lock rods Handle turns but door does not lock or unlock
Lock rod cables Cables running from the lock body to the latches at the top of the door Door latches on one side only; latch cable slack or disconnected
Canopy latch assembly Catch at the top of the door that engages with the frame when the door is closed Door does not hold closed or rattles in the frame
Latch keeper Strike plate on the frame that the latch engages with Latch engages but door is loose; keeper worn or misaligned
Internal handle / rope pull Internal means of releasing the latch from inside Difficulty opening the door from inside
G3 lock and brass handle Combined handle and lock assembly specific to G3 doors Handle or lock cam cracked or seized

Replacing a Garador T-handle

Garador T-handles are secured from the inside of the door with two or four bolts passing through the door panel. The spindle (the shaft connecting the external handle to the internal lock body) must match the door skin thickness. The most common spindle length on Garador canopy doors is 75mm, though some models use different lengths. Confirm by measuring the existing spindle before ordering.

To replace: open the door, remove the internal fixing bolts, withdraw the old handle assembly from the outside and fit the new handle in reverse order. The lock body should not need removal unless the cam mechanism itself has failed.

Replacing lock rod cables

On Garador canopy doors, lock rod cables run from the central lock body up to the latch assembly at the top corners of the door. If a cable is kinked, broken or disconnected, the corresponding latch will not engage. To replace: access the lock body from inside, disconnect the old cable at the cam end and at the latch bracket, route the new cable along the same path and reconnect at both ends. Test the lock operation before closing the door.

Garador G3 doors use a specific combined lock and brass handle assembly. If the brass handle on a G3 door has cracked or the lock cam has seized, the complete G3 lock and handle assembly is the correct replacement rather than a generic T-handle. Confirm the G3 pattern before ordering.
