Garador Garage Door Part Identification Guide

Which Garador Garage Door Part Do I Need?

Garador is one of the UK's most widely fitted garage door brands. Parts are model-specific across the G3 canopy, retractable, MK3C, MK4 and sectional ranges. This guide explains how to identify your Garador door type and match the symptom to the correct replacement part

Garador door types: quick reference

Garador manufacture several distinct door types, each with its own set of replacement parts. The most important first step is identifying which type you have.

Door type Era Key identification
G3 canopy 2002 onwards Single overhead torsion spring on a shaft across the top of the frame. C-type cones (cable drums) on the spring shaft ends. C-type roller spindles in the side track. Currently the most common Garador canopy door in service.
MK3C canopy Pre-2002 Single overhead spring. MK3C-pattern cones and roller spindles, which differ in profile from current G3 parts. Often identified by the older-style track bracket design.
MK4 retractable Various F-type cones and roller spindles. Retractable gear where the door travels fully inside the garage. Uses a different spring anchor and link arm arrangement from the canopy type.
Garador sectional Various Horizontal panel sections that fold up along ceiling tracks. Uses torsion springs, panel rollers, hinges and brackets. Often sold under the Garador brand but mechanically similar to Hormann sectional doors.
Belgravia / double-width canopy Various Double-width door using a paired cable and spring arrangement. Cables and spring assembly differ from single-width G3 doors.

Step 1: Confirm canopy or retractable

Canopy door

Open the door fully. If the top section projects outward from the opening as a horizontal canopy, it is a canopy-type door. The spring shaft with cones sits across the top of the door frame inside the garage. Most Garador domestic doors are canopy type.

Retractable door

Open the door fully. If the entire door travels inside the garage with no canopy projection, it is a retractable-type door. The door uses a different link arm, cone (F-type) and spring arrangement from the canopy type. MK4 F-type parts are required.

Step 2: Identify G3 or MK3C generation

For canopy doors, the generation determines the correct cone and spindle. The quickest way to tell them apart is the roller spindle length and the cone profile:

Component G3 (2002 onwards) MK3C (pre-2002)
Roller spindle length 85mm, 94mm or 96mm depending on version Different profile. Confirm by measuring existing spindle.
Cable type C-type cables (PN31/PN59 coding for double-width) MK3C-type cables. Different end fitting.
Cone/drum type C-type cone (tapered, with cable groove) MK3C pulley. Different profile from G3 cone.

Step 3: Match symptom to part

Symptom Likely part needed
Door very heavy to lift Broken or weakened spring
Door drops on one side when opening Frayed or snapped cable; worn cone
Door binds, scrapes or travels unevenly Worn or seized roller spindle
Remote does not operate motor Remote handset (battery first, then reprogram)
Handle turns but door does not lock Lock mechanism body or T-handle
Door does not latch when closed Latch assembly or keeper
Door drops suddenly when cable fails (anti-drop fitted) Anti-drop spindle assembly and cable
