Hörmann Garage Door Remote Reprogramming

How Do I Reprogram a Hörmann Garage Door Remote?

Whether you have a new Hörmann remote that needs pairing, or an existing remote that has lost its pairing with the motor, reprogramming takes around 60 seconds. This guide covers the programming sequence for current BiSecur Series 3 and 4 operators and older 868MHz Series 2 units

Before you start: confirm your motor series

The programming sequence differs slightly between motor series. Check the label on your motor unit casing for the series number (Series 2, 3 or 4). Series 4 is the current range with BiSecur as standard. Series 3 introduced BiSecur from around 2013. Series 2 uses 868MHz without BiSecur encryption.

Programming a BiSecur remote to a Series 3 or 4 motor

  1. Locate the programming button on the motor unit. On SupraMatic Series 3/4 units it is on the front panel behind the light cover. On ProMatic units it is typically on the underside of the motor head.
  2. Press and hold the programming button until the motor light flashes or you hear a brief tone. Release the button. The motor is now in programming mode for approximately 10 seconds.
  3. Within 10 seconds, press and hold the button on the handset you wish to programme. Hold until the motor light flashes again, confirming the code has been stored.
  4. Test the remote by pressing the programmed button. The motor should respond immediately.

Programming an additional remote to an existing system

If you already have a working BiSecur remote, you can use it to programme a second handset without accessing the motor unit. This is the "teacher" method:

  1. Hold the existing (teacher) remote close to the new (student) remote.
  2. Press and hold the programming button on the existing remote until the LED on the new remote lights up.
  3. Press the button on the new remote that you wish to use for the door. The LED will confirm the transfer.
  4. Test the new remote by pressing the programmed button.

Deleting programmed remotes from the motor

If a handset has been lost or stolen, all stored codes can be deleted from the motor and remotes reprogrammed from scratch. The reset procedure varies by motor series: consult the motor manual or contact Northwest Garage Door Spares for the correct sequence for your unit.

Keep the motor manual in a safe place. The programming button sequence and the procedure for deleting stored codes vary between Hörmann motor series. If you no longer have the manual, Hörmann UK publishes installation and programming guides for all current and many older motor models at hormann.co.uk.
